If Wishes Were Horses
“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
If turnips were bayonets, I’d wear one by my side.”
What is the difference between a wish and a horse?
I know a few horse people. The defining feature of these people is their willingness to suffer financially and emotionally for their beloved horse. The start is just the purchase of the horse, which is astoundingly expensive. Then the stable, the feed, the vets, the lessons, the transport, etc. This doesn’t even mention the emotional bond, the agony of the sickness or death of the horse. Or the painful realization that the horse is no longer rideable, but still has life in it, and now it has to be pastured and cared for and another horse has to be purchased if they want to ride.
This isn’t a wish, it’s a horse.
I see houses full of a lot of wishes, very few horses.
